Apricot Lane Farm – An Eco-friendly Escape Not Too Far From L.A.
To celebrate the blu-ray and DVD release of Far From the Madding Crowd, Apricot Lane Farms invited a few writers to experience a modern day farming experience that actually builds up the earths resources.
Farmer John, who runs the establishment with his wife Molly (please check out her cook book: Back to Butter), gave us a little information on how they run the property. By the end of the day I wanted to move there. “This is an organic and bio-dynamic farm, which means it’s focussed on biological diversity and farming in harmony with the ecosystem,” Farmer John said. “We do not use pesticides that can be really harmful and we really focus on building soil, and working in harmony with nature. We even invite birds and hawks. When all these things come together to create an ecosystem, you can have healthy soil, healthy plants and healthy people.” Sounds like a no brainer, but there are not that many of these types of eco-friendly farms in the world.
“This is one of the few farms like this. There are Maybe 200-300 in the entire county,” he continued. “Were working in a holistic way and using 33% less water than it was using five years ago. were very proud of this unique type farming.”
We were proud of him too! If you have a second, check out their website and their many TV appearances. Here are some images we liked from their website. Enjoy. It was delightful to see so many happy animals that were being loved and cared for.
