What do you get when you mix Audi with Donna Karan, Saks Fifth Avenue, a sprinkle of Wolfgang Puck’s amazing-ness and loads of hot models? You get an incredibly classy evening that reminds us all that Los Angeles is indeed a hub of art, culture and philanthropy.

The stars were out at the 5th annual Autumn Party benefitting the Children’s Institute, in LA on Wednesday night. “In 1996 I went to the Hamptons for a long weekend to visit a friend and within a couple of hours of my arrival I found out that a hurricane was approaching,” said Demi Moore as she took the stage to present the her friend Donna Karan with the evenings honors.  “My friend said we  immediately need to jump in the Jeep, go to the sand dunes, jump in the ocean and get as close as possible. Perception is incredibly powerful, it shapes the foundation of what we believe, it might have been impractical and illogical and some would say crazy but what my amazing friend Donna Karan saw in the midst of chaos and destruction was beauty and the potential of something extraordinary. In 2006 Donna created Urban Zen. She focused on three issues; bringing back the care in healthcare, preserving culture and empowering children…certainly not practical logical and some might say crazy. She had a vision, a vision of empowering children beyond reading writing and arithmetic .  And that was creating a curriculum of social responsibility, compassion and self respect – emotionally and physically – through education nutrition and yoga.  That became a reality and eight years later she has helped thousands of children and has given them tools to face obstacles with love compassion and strength. What she saw was beauty and the potential of something extraordinary.  I am so grateful that I went to the waters edge and I took off my clothes and I had the full experience of the beauty of hurricane Bertha and I’m extremely honored to present the PSLA 2014 philanthropic visionary award to my amazing friend Donna Karan for her tireless work.”

As soon as Donna Karan took the stage she said what we were all thinking: “You should see her on the beach!” Yes, we were all somewhat mesmerized at the thought of Demi Moore taking all of her clothes off.  But what came next was just as thrilling. The audience was treated to a runway presentation of Donna Karan’s  30th anniversary collection.

Celebrities who enjoyed the show included Gwyneth Paltrow, whose perfect legs were on full display in a white micro-mini, James Van Der Beek and wife Kimberly, Kris Jenner, Jessica Sienfeld and our personal favorite Barbra Streisand and her husband James Brolin.  Watching them leave holding hands smiling at each other made our night!

The PSLA auctioned off some fancy treats like an actual private breakfast at Tiffany’s and court side seats to a Laker game to raise money for the Children’s Institute.  The Children’s Institute is aimed at helping children in Los Angeles’ most challenged communities heal from the trauma of family and community violence.
