
Patrick Nilsson: “Bieber is making great choices…He’s grown up a lot.”
His fans weren’t the only ones beside themselves with joy to find that Justin Bieber was the newest model for Calvin Klein. Bieber had also been looking forward to this day for a long time! “It’s been his goal,” says personal trainer and good friend Patrick Nilsson. “He used to say ‘we have to do the Marky Mark thing’ and then he would say ‘it’s got to be Calvin Klein underwear.’”
Bieber made no secret of the fact that Mark Wahlberg was his body icon. His instagram account was covered in throwback shots of him in Calvin Klein underwear long before we knew about this campaign. “That’s his body icon,” Nilsson told us in September last year when Bieber walked the runway at Fashion Rocks in nothing but his Calvins. And now, that dream has come true. PS – the pics are ab-tastic!
So how did Bieber get those perfect Calvin Klein abs for this shoot? “We stepped up the workout routine four or five weeks before the shoot,” says Nilsson. “We had to be diligent and worked out about an hour every day. We had the upper body work out down but we added legs to the mix. We didn’t want him to lack too much in the leg department when he’s doing underwear.”
Underwear isn’t the end of the road when it comes to Bieber’s plans in the design world. “He wants to get into fashion.” Says Nilsson. “He’s grown up a lot, he’s definitely a new Bieber. He’s making great choices, he’s not about being crazy and having fun all the time, he’s doing things to better his future and it really shows. The Calvin Klein thing was a huge goal for Bieber and achieving it has made him very proud. There is so much more to come though so stay tuned.”
Nilsson and Bieber are also doing their part to give back in the field of health and fitness. Nilsson founded the Orange Gym Rats, an organization that aims to make it cool for teens to be healthy and fit and Bieber is often seen in the foundations social media videos.
