Zuhair Murad: Channeling our inner Scarlett O’Hara

Two images of Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara and Clark Gable as Rhett Butler from Gone With The Wind on either side of Look Four from Zuhair Murad’s pre-fall 2015 collection
When Vivien Leigh won the role of Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With The Wind, Director George Kucor said she had “a kind of indescribable wildness about her.” That’s what it took to knock Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn and Joan Crawford off the list. Well, that and the sparkle in her deep blue eyes…which is apparently what sold producer David O. Selznick, who sifted through some 75,000 audition letters before choosing his leading lady.
O’Hara who was known to be vain and insecure proved in the end that she was a survivor (albeit in business way more than in love). Just like her character promised, she proved she could lie, steal, cheat and kill to make it. Dishonesty and corruption aside, we see so much of Scarlett O’Hara’s fiery nature and stop-at-nothing attitude in todays successful women.
And it seems Zuhair Murad may have been thinking the same thing when he put together his pre-fall 2015 collection. Murad is known for putting some of the most influential and sexy women of our time ( hello JLO, Katy Perry, Kerry Washington and Taylor Swift) in the most elegant and smoldering red carpet gowns. This time it seems he called on one of old hollywood’s most iconic films, Gone With The Wind, for inspiration. Just take One look at the first four looks of his 2015 pre-fall collection that came out on Thursday.
Thank you Murad for bringing back a whole lot of nostalgia and for making me order Gone With The Wind again on Netflix. Enjoy these pre-fall 2015 images below and to see the collection in its entirety, click here.
