Fit Fix: Cycle For Heroes, a great night out!

Djimon Hounsou, Founder of the Heroes Project Tim Medvetz and veteran Kionte Storey riding for a good cause!
For those of you who thought Soul Cycle was like a nightclub on wheels, Cycle for Heroes will most probably make you feel like you are at the fitness worlds equivalent of a rockin rave!
On Friday night, Equinox put 300 bikes on the Santa Monica Pier and hosted a three hour outdoor rock n roll inspired spin class to raise money for The Heroes Project, an organization that helps support veterans, soldiers, marines and military families.
Before you have a heart attack at the thought of a three hour spin class, I will tell you that you don’t have to ride for the entire three hours, you can share a bike with friends or co-workers (I shared a bike with the Equinox team…thank goodness because I only lasted 30 minutes!) and when you’re not riding, there is so much fun to be had.
The event was kicked off by Duff McKagan of Guns N Roses who performed the National Anthem on stage. Then the music blasted through the speakers and instructors took turns every 30 minutes to guide the crowd through their outdoor spin class. To inspire cyclists, and entertain guests, videos of veterans climbing some of the worlds highest mountains were played on two jumbotrons on either side of the stage. One of the goals of The Heroes Project is to raise money to allow wounded veterans to climb some of the highest mountains in the world, and watching these expeditions was enough to keep you going. And for those who needed a little extra encouragement, there were pole dancers and hula hoopers on rotation all night! It was a real party. Oh and Djimon Hounsou showed up… “he’s been here before,” says an onlooker. “He’s a regular!”
If you like music, cycling and giving back, then you should become a regular too. This year they raised $200,000 for The Heroes Project, don’t miss out on being part of this for next year… you will have so much fun and you will have supported our veterans who are supporting us every day!
Happy riding!
